Slab Caster revamping equipped with Tube Changer with Stopper Control

This customer in Mexico was looking at global performance improvement through increased sequence length, improved superficial steel quality, and increased operational flexibility to cast high steel quality grades in all the casters.

Vesuvius recommended the Shroud Exchange Mechanism SEM85 with the VPC (Vesuvius Precision Control) which combines the best of the available hardware and software.

By using this Vesuvius solution, yearly savings were over 1.5 M € per year. This was gained through a combination of sequence extension (by 49%), increase of output (by 10%), improved quality, reduction in down graded product (by 56%), improved working conditions for operators. As a result over 8,000 tons of yield improvement and subsequent 15,000 tons CO₂ emission reduction were achieved.
