VESUVIUS manufactures a comprehensive range of dense aluminium resistant castables and bricks for casthouse melting and holding furnaces.

VESUVIUS has developed materials specifically for the containment of aluminium and its alloys, exhibiting superior non-wetting characteristics that minimise penetration and the potential for corundum formation and growth. This high quality range of aluminium resistant products are identifiable by their brand name ALUGARD^®.

• ALUGARD^® aluminium resistant, castables, bricks and mortars provide superior non-wetting and high strength furnace linings. This range of products includes specialised formulations to provide excellent resistance to both high silicon and high magnesium based alloy grades. A special super tough ALUGARD^® has been specifically developed for charge sills and ramps of cast house furnaces. This product is presently providing extended sill lives at many leading aluminium plants worldwide, effectively reducing maintenance costs and furnace shutdown frequencies in this normally high maintenance area. Within the USA, in addition to the ALUGARD^® range of materials, Vesuvius also offers the ALU-DRI™ and SPARTAN™ bricks for aluminium applications.
• NETTLE^® dense alumina firebricks are available for upper wall and arched roof constructions on brick lined furnaces.
• DURAX^®, RAM-HS^®, CERCAST™, LITEWATE^® and CRITERION^® products from our range of conventional castables, low cement castables, insulation castables and dense mouldables are used in the construction of the upper furnace chamber, roofs, doors and burner throats of monolithic lined furnaces.

VESUVIUS also manufactures and supplies a complete range of back-up insulation materials including non-wetting sub-hearth products.

CORELESS INDUCTION FURNACES
Many casthouses and secondary melting plants have coreless induction furnaces for melting chippings, returns and clean scrap.
Vesuvius manufactures a high quality range of dry vibration linings for coreless induction furnaces under the brand name of KELLUNDITE^®.
This range includes specially developed products for aluminium melting applications, which exhibit excellent non-wetting properties, providing a clean and easily maintained lining.
