3.7 M US$ waste reduction in a Mini Mill

Elby ladle bottom designed for a 1.4 MT / year mini mill allows to save 3.7 M US$ / year or 0.6% of profit margin gain.


In a Mini Mill producing rails and structural steel with a 120 T ladle operating 12,000 heats per annum, the Elby precast ladle bottom specifically designed for this plant allows to recover 0.7 T more steel per heat, avoiding any good metal to stay in the ladle after pouring.


Elby increases by 8,500 T the tonnage of good steel produced per annum at no additional cost. In addition, it saves 300,000 US$ per annum of energy for remelting the scrap.
