New Slab Caster equipped with VESUVIUS Tundish Slide Gate with Tube Changer

The commissioning of a new slab caster by this customer in India was an opportunity to install a new generation GTC2085 tundish slide gate system with integrated tube changer facility.

 

Expected added value was an increase sequence length compared to the existing slab casters operating with conventional refractory designs i.e. Stopper and Sub-entry Nozzle system.

 

Vesuvius solution consisted of shrouded argon box design to reduce alumina build up and oxidation of refractory, on-line tube changer feature to prolong sequences by replacing the clogged or worn-out sub-entry nozzles without interrupting the casting process. An elastic clamping mechanism with T5 shaped refractory limits the cracking of plates, hence minimized erosion and enhanced capability to sustain long sequence casting, and an integrated tundish nozzle and top plate design to reduce the number of refractory joints that are susceptible to air aspiration leading to erosion or clogging.

 

As we understand, the benefits for the customer were yearly savings above 250,000€, CO2 emission reduction above 3,500 tons, and more efficient use of energy and resources.
