CUPOLA

The long campaign cupola is the principal melting unit of most modern automobile and pipe foundries worldwide. The increasing requirement for improved iron quantity and quality places severe demands on the cupola furnace refractories.

VESUVIUS has been at the forefront of cupola refractory development for more than 25 years, during which time foundries have adopted its innovative cupola lining design and refractory technology in most markets.

RAMWELL is a range of slag resistant, high alumina, pitch free granular rammings. Containing up to 25% silicon carbide together with an innovative complex binder system, RAMWELL achieves some of the best refractory performances in cupola operations worldwide.

HYDRA-MAX is a new range of high alumina, low cement castables; containing silicon carbide, HYDRA-MAX , with its superior slag resistance, can be used in conjunction with, or in place of, RAMWELL products in the well and syphon box of long campaign cupolas.

In the melting zone the use of ULTRAGUN and DURAGUN high silicon carbide gunmixes, as well as offering an abrasion resistant, slag resistant lining, they also provide the necessary thermal gradient to increase the effect of the external water cooling thereby extending the overall melting campaign.

Critical to the success of a lined cupola is the taphole and slag hole. VESUVIUS has been, and continues to be, the innovative leader of technology in this area using pre-cast slag tubes and RAMLOX resin bonded moldable based on fused alumina and silicon carbide.

A research and development programme of continuous improvement ensures that VESUVIUS’ specialised cupola technology remains the leader in the field, supported by technical and on-site engineering around the world. These high value products have proved successful in prolonging the campaign life and reducing total ling cost.
