CONTINUOUS TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

To meet the needs of iron auto-pour producers world-wide, Vesuvius has launched the Monoprobe™, an industrial temperature measurement system that continuously reads iron bath temperature in real-time inside the pour box of auto-pour and pressure pour furnaces.

Characteristics and composition of the system

• The Vesuvius Monoprobe™ is a new addition to the family of the Accumetrix® system. It consists of a long lasting type B thermocouple, which provides very accurate temperature measurement. The thermocouple is inserted into a high quality alumina graphite outer refractory sheath that gives extended protection against liquid iron and slag. In addition, it combines high thermal conductivity for fast reaction time, with excellent resistance to erosion.

• This probe is connected through a signal cable to an electronic control panel from where the temperature signal is relayed to visual display units, temperature recorders or other control systems.

• The system accuracy varies from -1°C to +1°C and is calibrated according the international recognised standards IEC 578, DIN 43710, NBS125, JIS1981, AFNOR and BS4937.


Operational benefits and product quality improvements

• Full analysis of pour box temperature profile allows better understanding and management of casting system dynamics.

• Accurate continuous temperature measurement allows pro-active correction to minimise temperature related rejects.

• Continuous temperature recording gives QS/ISO/SPC accountability matched to every casting.

• Automation of the furnace process control system is possible using the real-time temperature signal.

• Energy savings can be realised by closed loop control between continuous temperature and furnace temperature settings.

• Health and safety conditions are improved for the operators by reducing exposure to iron splashes, smoke and fume.
