鋳鉄鋳物メーカーでは、鋳鉄の成分と温度の制御が造型ラインの多様な要求に十分に対応できなければなりません。
使用される溶解材料は通常、鋳造返り材、鋼や鉄屑材、銃鉄やフェロシリコンなどの合金添加物を含む原料で構成されています。また、鋳鉄品の大部分はレジン中子を用いて生砂型で製造されます。
ねずみ鋳鉄の優れている点は、廉価なこと、ある程度の温度範囲で高い流動性を有すること、体積の収縮が殆んどないという点です。一方、ダクタイル鋳鉄は高い延性を備えているため、鋳造製品は厳しい用途に使用できます。
