What is piroGUN for EAF

piroGUN, an integral part of Vesuvius's comprehensive Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) maintenance solutions, represents a versatile range of specialised equipment designed for the critical task of EAF brick repairing through gunning.

piroGUN offers practical and proven solutions for EAF refractory maintenance, ranging from fully manual to enhanced models with advanced control features. It functions as a gunning material shooting system, incorporating pressure vessels, material silos, and various control systems to support the durability and performance of EAF linings.

Key Benefits

Enhanced Refractory Life and Reduced Consumption
piroGUN equipment enables a considerable increase in brick life, significantly extending EAF campaign life. Proven successes include campaign life increases from 700 to 930 heats at one customer and from 450 to 730 heats at another. This improvement is achieved through more targeted gunning inside the furnace, resulting in lower refractory consumption. Overall, brick life can increase from 30% up to 100%.

Improved Safety and Ergonomics
The design aims to reduce physical strain, notably by eliminating the need for operators to carry heavy gunning pipes and hoses, thereby reducing the physical demand on personnel during maintenance. Operators are also removed from the furnace heat load.

Customised for Your Furnace
Each EAF piroGUN system is tailor-made and customised to the individual furnace geometry, ensuring optimal fit and performance.

Material Versatility: The system offers the capability for two or three different gunning product applications, enabling specific products to be used for various wear patterns in the linings. Importantly, piroGUN is also suitable for applications involving fettling materials (dry materials).
